Fairfax Co. Fire Dept. Launches Citizens Academy

Citizens who wish to learn more about the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department can participate in a new nine-week program that will show participants what firefighters and paramedics do every day.

Those interested can apply to the first-ever Citizens Fire & Rescue Academy. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 18, or until the class of 25 is filled.

The academy will begin March 28. The program will meet for nine consecutive weeks, from 6 – 9 p.m. at various locations in and outside the Fire and Rescue Department.

Each session will cover different aspects of the organization, providing an in-depth overview of the department and its uniformed and civilian workforce. Program topics include: fire suppression, emergency medical services, training, recruitment, special operations, and other interesting topics.

Those who wish to sign up for the free program can apply online at fairfaxcounty.gov/fr/cfa. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
