Hey folks, get your bibs ready– it’s BBQ time in D.C. This weekend is the 20th Annual Safeway Barbecue Battle featuring food vendors galore, bands, cooking competitions and more smokey goodness.
This isn’t just one BBQ contest– there’s seven different competitions taking place downtown. There’s the top billed National Barbecue Championship (with four categories), the tender beef contest, the sizzlin’ chicken contest, the Australian lamb competition, the National Pork Championship, an extra meaty rib contest and a Best BBQ sauce contest. That’s a lotta grub. Providing the soundtrack for the ‘cue will be Soul Asylum, ConFunkShun, Cowboy Mouth, a Chuck Brown Tribute Band, Jimmies Chicken Shack and a whole bunch more. All this eatin’ is for a good cause too, over the years the Barbecue Battle has raised $1.2 million for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
