Child Center Task Force Resets Deadline to July 30

Acting Falls Church City Manager Cindy Mester confirmed at Monday’s F.C. City Council meeting that the newly-formed task force to mull options for the future use of the City-owned Child Development Center property on N. Cherry Street has requested an extension of the deadline for its recommendation from July 8 to July 30.

The group held its first meeting on Monday and is slated for a second one tonight. One of a large number of citizens supporting the continued, if shared, use of the facility as a child care center run by the Easter Seals noted that the Falls Church Schools say they do not need access to the space for its own programs until July 2012, and that participants in the Easter Seals program hope steps will be taken to assure them they will have full use of the space at least until then.

Falls Church City Manager Wyatt Shields will be at the helm upon his return from vacation next Monday.
