Meridian Girls Soccer Snaps Losing Skid, Blanks Wakefield 2-0

After taking a rough road loss the previous night to District rival Fauquier, the Meridian High School girls’ soccer team returned home on Wednesday to host the Wakefield Warriors. It was a seasonably cold evening in Falls Church, but the Mustang faithful showed up in full force regardless to support the girls as they looked to end a three-game losing streak.

Meridian controlled play early on, but it would be a low-scoring first period as Wakefield’s defense held up until just past midway through the frame. That’s when Violet Zullo got the Mustangs on the board first, and that would be the only tally before the intermission from either team despite Meridian getting a few quality chances late. Wakefield came out of the break aggressive early on in the second, but Baelyn Reinfurt was able to stop the few shots sent her way, and Lucy Hladky then doubled the advantage at just under ten minutes into the period. That score would hold as the final, as Meridian took the 2-0 victory.

The Mustangs – now 2-4 on the year – will now have some extended time off as they and all of the school’s other teams will be enjoying spring break next week. When they return, they’ll be back in action at Millbrook on April 22nd.
