Registration for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics (NVSO) is set to begin on Monday, July 10. The NVSO includes up to 70 events that exercise the mind and body. To qualify for the Olympics, participants must turn 50 years old by December 31, 2017.
Participants can register online at nvso.us or can register via mail with paper registrations that are available at most county recreation and senior centers. Deadline for online NVSO registration is Saturday, September 2. All paper registrations must be postmarked by Saturday, August 26. The games are scheduled to take place for a 10-day period from Saturday, September 9 to Wednesday, September 20.
The NVSO’s basic registration fee is $13, with an additional $1 fee added for each event a participant enters. Certain events require specific fees such as $10 for bowling (to cover lunch) $5 for cycling (to cover cost of traffic control and electronic timing) $65 for golf (to cover greens fees, lunch and a golf cart) and $5 for orienteering (to cover compass rentals). The NVSO is also seeking volunteers to help facilitate at its venues throughout Northern Virginia.
