The Falls Church City Democratic Committee, the Fairfax County Democratic Committee and the reelection campaign of State Del. Marcus Simon were all hosts to well-attended picnics, ice cream socials and barbecues over the warm Labor Day weekend.

In Falls Church, the F.C. Democrats held forth at the Cherry Hill Park pavilion where U.S. Rep. Donald S. Beyer Jr. was joined by State Sen. Wendy Davis of Texas, the women who led a nationally-publicized filibuster to stop anti-woman legislation from becoming law in Texas (legislation that was ultimately dashed by the U.S. Supreme Court). Davis was present as a surrogate for Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, just as the Northern Virginia regional campaign chief for Clinton, Benji Mercer Golden, spoke for Clinton at the picnic at the home of Fairfax County Democratic chair Sue Langley. U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly and Fairfax Board Chair Sharon Bulova were also present there, as was LuAnn Bennett, given a good shot at upending incumbent 10th District Republican congressman Barbara Comstock. Connolly was also present as the event for Simon on Labor Day, held at the Vienna home of former Del. Jim Scott, who was honored with wife Nancy, and a strong Falls Church contingent was present.

Half the funds raised at the event went to the Insight Memory Care Center of Fairfax, which is working with Del. Scott in his fight against Alzheimer’s.
