Astro Creates Team USA Doughnut for Summer Games
Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken has a couple of new sweet treat specials available this summer at its Falls Church location in Pimmit Hills.
Joining its breakfast sandwiches, now there’s French toast available all week long for both breakfast and brunch. The made-to-order dish is a yeast doughnut egg-washed with milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, orange and lime zest, finished on a flat top and then topped with vanilla pastry cream and maple syrup for $4.50. Additionally, there’s an option to take it to another level and top the whole thing with peach compote made up of sauteed peaches, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, honey and vanilla for $1.50 more.
And just in time for the Summer Games, Astro is serving a red, white and blue Olympic doughnut honoring Team USA. A vanilla glazed doughnut is topped with a raspberry drizzle, blueberries and has “USA” written in chocolate for $2.95.
Astro’s French toast doughnut special is available at its Falls Church location Monday through Friday from 7:30 – 11 a.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Team USA doughnut is available during the Olympic games from August 5 – 21.

Pokémon Go Craze Continues With Pizza, Cookie PokéBalls
The Pokémon Go-food mashup continues in Falls Church, this time with Pizzeria Orso getting in on the mobile game action. An official “PokéStop,” Orso is hooking up not one, but two Pokémon-inspired specials.
First up is an official Poké pizza with toppings laid out so it transforms the pie into one, big, greasy and cheesy Poké Ball. The half-mozzarella-ricotta cream, half-pepperoni pizza with olives down the middle is $12. For dessert, award-winning 2941 and Orso pastry chef Caitlin Dysart has created an iced cookie, again designed like a Poké Ball for $2.
Both Pokémon Go pizza and cookie specials will be available through the end of August.
