100-Year-Old F.C. Resident Honored with Proclamation

by Karim Doumar

Luray Johnson Hunter, 100, of Falls Church was presented with a proclamation honoring her as a centenarian from Falls Church City Mayor David Tarter during Galloway United Methodist Church’s 148th Anniversary Celebration ceremony on June 28. Hunter was born in Annandale on April 30, 1915 and her late husband, Colbert Hunter, was a lifelong member of Galloway United Methodist Church and his grandfather, Harriet Brice, founded it.

Hunter remains active. She maintains her own home and spends lots of her time either with her great-grandchildren and other family members or raving about them with a smile. She is also a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Alexandria and splits her worship time between the two churches.

She is known in her church communities for her glowing smile and her trademark phrase “I am pretty good for an old lady.”
