Statewide Tornado Drill Scheduled for March 11

Registration is now open for the March 11 Statewide Tornado Drill at ReadyVirginia.gov. Businesses, schools, organizations, families and individuals are encouraged to take part in this critical safety exercise. The annual drill is a joint effort of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service. Over 391,000 have registered for this annual safety exercise.

“The City has felt the impact of weather related events in recent years,” said Capt. Tom Polera, City of Falls Church emergency manger. “Tornadoes should be taken very seriously; they don’t have a season and are possible at any time of the year.”

Polera also suggests that all Falls Church residents and businesses establish an Emergency Plan. “We should never become complacent, especially when there are tools to assist in emergency planning; everyone is responsible for their own resiliency,” Polera said.
