State Del. Mark Sickles, Now Seeking Election to Congress, Comes Out as Gay

Veteran State Del. Mark Sickles, who represents areas of Alexandria and southern Fairfax County in the Virginia state legislature and who has thrown his hat in the ring as among 10 other candidates seeking to fill the U.S.Congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Jim Moran, came out publicly as being gay in an announcement yesterday. It makes Sickles the second gay candidate seeking the Moran job, as State Sen. Adam Ebbin has been openly gay since the 1990s when first elected to the state legislature.
