Mary Ellen Henderson Closed Wednesday Due to Sewage Leak

Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School will be closed to students Wednesday due to an outside sewage leak and sink hole, school officials reported tonight. The leak and sink hole were detected this afternoon and after working through the evening, the school says the problem was unable to be fixed. An excavator will continue work tomorrow.

Because of the leak, the school’s restrooms are unusable and the school will be unable to open to students. Officials are also concerned with the excavating work’s proximity to the gas lines. The school says the current problem is not related to a sewer leak that occurred earlier in the school year.

The standard Middle School After School Day Care program will be held Wednesday at the Falls Church Community Center from 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Parents must park and walk their children into the Teen Center so that they can sign for their child. As the Center can only handle approximately 80 additional children, Day Care is only available for those families currently enrolled in the MSASAP program.

MEH School staff is asked to report at 8 a.m. to the Learning Center at George Mason High School for professional development.

Updates will be made at Falls Church City School’s Emergency Status Board at www.fccps.org/alerts.
