8-Year-Old Runner Earns Dual National Championships

Rheinhardt Harrison, an 8 year old who will be attending third grade at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School this fall, just became a dual national champion by winning the 800 meter and 1500 meter track races at the AAU Primary National Championships. The meet was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando July 7-8.

In winning the 1500m race, he set a new AAU Primary National Championship record with a time of 5:30.38.

Rheinhardt runs track and field and cross country for the Fairfax Police Youth Club and is the first track and field National Champion for the club.

His final meet for the season will be the USATF Junior Olympics National Championships at Morgan State University in Baltimore July 27-30. He has qualified to run in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m events.
