Mason Tennis Player Tops State Singles Tourney

pictureKan Tagami, the George Mason High School boys tennis team’s top-seeded player, won the Single A VHSL singles competition in Radford yesterday.

In the semi-finals, he defeated Drew Barsamian of Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in two sets, losing only one game in the sets. He moved on to the state finals to play Tim Howard of Glenvar High School, who had defeated Marc Huff of Lee High School to make his way to the match-up.

Tagami beat Howard in two sets, 6-3 and 6-1, making Tagami the new state champion.

It will be a busy weekend for Tagami, who is also playing with the Mason squad today at 1 p.m. in the state semi-finals, and with his doubles partner, Jay Rodock, in the doubles tournament today at 3 p.m.
