ALICE WILBANKS CANNADY, 92, devoted mother and grandmother, passed away April 10, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Cannady was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She was active in PEO, OWC, and numerous other volunteer organizations. Most notable was her assistance in creating a maternal/child clinic in Tehran, Iran. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting and soon after wed her love, Preston B. Cannady. Her 32 years of service as an Army wife shaped her joy for travel and interest in people and culture. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Col (Ret) Preston B. Cannady and infant son, James Cannady. Mrs. Cannady is survived by her devoted son, Dr. Preston B. Cannady, Jr. of Vernon Hills, IL and granddaughters Rachel Cannady of Starkville, MS, Anne Cannady of Denver, CO, and Elizabeth Cannady of El Paso, TX. A Funeral Service will be held June 14th at 10:30 am at Mount Olivet Methodist Church, 1500 N. Glebe Rd, Arlington VA, 22207. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at 2 pm on June 14th, where she will rest beside her loving husband of 59 years. The family wishes to thank the administration and staff of Sunrise of Highland Park and her personal caretaker, Gina and Miriam, whose exemplary care gave comfort and peace. Memorials may be sent to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in honor and thanksgiving for Mrs. Cannady’s life, friendship, and caring for us.
