Monday night, the Falls Church City Council gave a final OK to the sale of the historic City-owned Pendleton House on 11,251 square feet adjacent Madison Park at 114 E. Columbia to a private homeowner. The new owner told the Council he is a lifelong native of Northern Virginia and has no other intention than to restore and live in the house. Built in 1885, the four-room house was purchased by the City in 1974 to augment the Madison School, adjacent the site at the time. However, with the removal of the Madison School, the house was designated in the 1980s as a home for persons with intellectual disabilities, a use that was discontinued in 2009. No added restrictions beyond those generally ascribed to historically-designated homes in F.C. were added to the terms of the sale.
