TJHSST Wins 1st at ‘Do the Cube’ Tourney

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) team took first place in the high school division of the recent You Can Do the Cube tournament – to unscramble 25 Rubik’s Cubes in the fastest time – held in conjunction with the USA Science and Engineering Festival on the National Mall.

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) team took first place in the high school division of the recent You Can Do the Cube tournament – to unscramble 25 Rubik’s Cubes in the fastest time – held in conjunction with the USA Science and Engineering Festival on the National Mall.

The eight-member TJHSST team solved the 25 cubes with a winning time of 1:47.77 and defeated 18 high schools from the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia to win the event. Team members are Will Bunting, Asa Kaplan, Chris Kim, Evan Liu, Chris Mercado, Mitchell Stern, David Weisiger, and Kevin Zhou. The tournament is sponsored by the You Can Do the Rubik’s Cube initiative aimed at teaching youth to solve the cube while learning fundamental geometry and algebra concepts.
