57-Year City Resident Gladeen Hastings Dies

Gladeen A. Hastings, long time resident of Falls Church, known as “Bonnie” to her close friends, died on Monday, June 7, 2010 of natural causes. She was 86.

Beloved wife of the late Charles W. Hastings, loving mother of Charles W. Hastings, Jr. and the late Laura A. Hastings, and sister of the late Harold F. Haff. A 57-year resident of Falls Church, Bonnie was born in Lorain, Ohio in 1923, and came to the D.C. area in 1942 to work in a steno pool at the Pentagon. Here she met Charles W. Hastings and the two were married until his death in 1994.

Bonnie was active in DNC politics for many years. She was a pollster and campaign canvassing volunteer for a number of elected candidates at the local, state and national level. She is fondly remembered by life-long friends living in the West BelAir/Westlawn area, where she lived since 1953. Bonnie moved to the Abbott Orchard/West Falls Church area to live with her surviving son in 2003.

Friends may gather on Sunday, June 27 at Advent Funeral and Cremation Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church from 2 – 3 p.m. and where a Memorial service will begin at 3 p.m.. Inurnment Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. Please assemble at Administration Building by 1:30 p.m.
