Longtime F.C. Resident Lorraine Smith Dies at 87

Falls Church’s Lorraine T. Smith, 87, died Monday, May 24 at Fairfax Hospital after suffering a severe stroke the week before.  She was a long-time resident of the City of Falls Church, living first at Merrill House, and most recently at Park Towers.

Lorraine was born in Goldsboro, NC, and never lost her lilting Carolina accent entirely, remaining a gracious, southern lady all her life.  She was a devoted mother of three who loved classical music, fine food, art and international travel.

She began her travel adventures as an army wife, living in both Germany after WWII, and Panama in the 50’s. Other postings too numerous to mention sent her all over the USA with her former husband, William W. Smith, Jr.  Later, she enjoyed further extensive travels with her beloved companion, Guido Mansuino.

Lorraine is survived by three children (Beejee Juhnke, Fran Smith and Shirley LeForge),  five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
