Bull Run Champs, Mason High Girls Tennis Heads to Regionals Saturday

George Mason High’s Bull Run District champion girls tennis team heads to the Region B State Semi-Finals tomorrow to take on the Shenandoah County District champion Riverheads High School. The Mason team was stopped in the Region B semis a year ago and will move past that level to the state championships this time Coach Chris Madison, in his 11th year coaching the team, calls this year’s “the most dominate season in George Mason tennis in the past 15 years” for the girls.

With a 12-1 record to date, the team is led by Senior Kelsey Kane, who won the Region B singles title last Tuesday to qualify for the state tournament on June 10 in Redford. She won her matches 6-1, 6-0 and then 6-3, 6-0 on Tuesday. Other leaders of the Mason team are seniors Claire Pribulka, Claire Sedmak, Alexa Shaffer and Nathalie Lesgourgues and junior Jessica Lim. The girls’ doubles teams are also formidable, with Kane and Sedmak as District champions and Pribulka and Shaffer unbeaten this season. Pribulka has only one loss over three seasons. Lesgourgues and Christel DeOcampo is the third doubles unit. Next Tuesday, June 1, Mason will host the Region B doubles championships beginning at 3 p.m. Kane will be looking for her second straight regional title then, having won it last year paired with Michelle Repper.
