Maller Asks Why Fund Balance Should Be Restored to 8 Percent in Budget Crisis

Faced with a long list of proposed new draconian cuts in the City of Falls Church’s FY11 budget, Councilman Dan Maller questioned why all four scenarios for deeper cuts in the City’s operational and School Board programs involve the restoration of the City’s fund balance to 8 percent of annual expenditures when “people willing be suffering so much” with layoffs, cuts and tax increases. No response was immediately provided to Maller, with a promise the matter would come up at the end of what promises to be a very long meeting.
