It was more drama than Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School students bargained for with their lively production of “The Music Man, Jr.” last weekend. First, the heavy snows causing cancellation of school severely restricted the amount of rehearsal time to get ready, then on the eve of opening night, the lead of the play, the talented George de Mars, became ill and could not perform. Sixth grader George Castillo was rushed into the part with no prior preparation, working diligently for six hours before curtain time. He did an amazing job, and de Mars was able to pick up the part for the Friday and Saturday shows. (Photo: News-Press)
