House Fire in Falls Church Area of Fairfax

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Arlington County Fire Department units responded to a house fire, Thursday, November 5, 2009, at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located 2300 Brilyn Place.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke from windows on the second floor of the two-story home upon arrival. First arriving units also contended with fire from the rear of the structure. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes. The fire originated in a second floor bedroom and was confined to that area, with heat, smoke, and water damage throughout the second floor and ceiling. An Arlington County firefighter received a non-life threatening injury during the incident. There were no working smoke alarms in the home. Two adults have been displaced. Red Cross support was declined.

Damage is estimated at $120,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electric blanket in a second floor bedroom caused the fire.
