A number of Falls Church businesses have banded together to support Falls Church Arts Home for the Arts Benefit Art Auction and House Tour on Sunday, October 28. Art and Frame of Falls Church, Galleria Florist, Bonnie Briar Productions, Grape Juice Wine Shop, Quinn's Auction Galleries, Giant Foods, Kendall's Cakes, Perfect Endings, and Nash Hair Design have all joined up along with the nonprofits Choralis and Creative Cauldron to raise funds for Falls Church Arts’ Park Avenue Gallery. Vantage Fitness is hosting a bake sale on Monday, October 29 from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm to support local athlete and Vantage Fitness Personal Training Director, Tara Cassidy’s efforts to raise funds for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. She is training through the Society’s Team in Training Program to ride 109 miles on November 17 in Tucson, Arizona. 100% of the proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Stacy’s Coffee Parlor is hosting a workshop with Greg Cronin, CCD, on hiring and training employees to maximize retention from 7 – 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30. Business owners and potential entrepreneurs are invited to attend Entrepreneur Express, a workshop designed to provide resources and deliver practical, hand-on training covering key elements of business practice. The event is being co-hosted by the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce and the Falls Church City Economic Development Office and held in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance and Virginia Tech/University of Virginia Northern Virginia Center. Seminars on how to start and operate a business, growing your business, marketing strategy, finances and resource management will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and will be followed by a resource exhibit from noon to 2:00 pm on Friday, November 16. Simply Success is hosting a Holiday Shopping Spree on Saturday, November 17 from 10 – 3 p.m. at the Falls Church Community Center. The City of Falls Church is seeking nominations for its 2007 Business Awards. Awards will be granted in seven categories: Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Most Improved Commercial Property, Environmental Stewardship, Excellence in Customer Service, and Innovative Technology. Nick Benton, founder of Benton Communications and owner-editor of the Falls Church News-Press, was named "Producer of the Year" by the Falls Church Cable Access Corporation at its annual meeting last week. Benton has produced the weekly "Falls Church News-Press Live," co-hosting the live telecast with former Greater Falls Church Chamber executive Commander Robert S. "Hap" Day, since 1992. It is aired Mondays at 7 p.m. on Falls Church's cable channel 12 (Cox) and 2 (RCN). Before that, he produced the first-ever cable access program on Falls Church cable television, "Eye on Washington," beginning in January 1988 and a number of live telecasts of "Election Night Live" on Falls Church City Council election days. Benton Communications originally incorporated as Century News Service, Inc., recently celebrated 20 years as a Falls Church-based business. It is the corporate entity that founded and has published the Falls Church News-Press since March 1991.
