Real estate executive LuAnn Bennett announced her bid for Virginia’s 10th District U.S. Congressional seat this morning in a web video. “Like many Northern Virginians, I’m frustrated with the lack of results and gridlock in Congress,” Bennett, who has never held public office, said in the web video.

“When you run a small business, you work with whomever you need to in order to get results. Refusing to work with someone just isn’t an option. I have spent my career in the private sector, identifying challenges, solving problems and working with people to build a better future.”

She will be facing Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), who won the seat in 2014 after Republican Frank R. Wolf, who held the seat for decades, decided not to run for reelection.

Bennett, who grew up in Illinois, earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University before moving to Northern Virginia in 1980. Here she married her late husband Rick Bennett and built her real estate firm, Bennett Group, which is currently based in Upper Northwest Washington, D.C.

She currently serves on the National Children’s Museum board, the Institute for Sustainable Communities board and the New Jersey & H Educational Foundation Advisory Board.  She is a former member of the Virginia Health Care Foundation, Charity Works Advisory Board and she previously served on Virginia’s Climate Change Commission.
