‘Stangs Snap Losing Streak With Homecoming Victory

The George Mason High School football team hadn’t had a win all season. Including the previous season’s single-win record, the Mustangs hadn’t had a victory in more than a dozen games. But that all changed at last Friday’s homecoming game, when George Mason blanked the visiting John Champe High School Knights and clinched a 23-0 victory.

Both teams went into the game eager to turn their 0-6 seasons around, and head coach Tony Green had an early indication that his team was ready to make it happen.

“From warm-ups, the coaching staff could tell the Mustangs were ready to play,” Green said, adding that it was truly a team victory, one achieved with a boost from the homecoming crowd.

“The Mason football team played a complete game on Friday night,” Green said. “We had contributions from the offense, defense, and special teams.”

This Friday, the Mustangs will travel to take on the William Monroe High School Dragons.

“The William Monroe team we face this week is another talented team in the Bull Run District. The players have been working all week correcting mistakes from last week and preparing for the Dragons,” Green said.
