Meridian Girls Lacrosse Beat Fauquier On Senior Night

The girls’ lacrosse team at Meridian High School has been absolutely on fire lately, with six straight wins after a 1-3 start and most of them haven’t even been close. They capped off a 4-0 week last week by winning two games in a weekend tournament at Battlefield on Saturday, and then took that momentum into Senior Night as they hosted Fauquier on Monday. In front of a full, energized crowd, the girls were ready to show off and show out.

That they did. Ally Campbell, one of the five seniors who was given special recognition pregame, scored twice in the opening 30 seconds and the Mustangs led 8-0 by the midway point of the first quarter. Campbell’s third goal moments later put the home team up by double figures, prompting a running clock the rest of the night with nearly five minutes still left in the opening period, and Meridian would never let up. It was 11-0 after a frame, 16-0 at halftime, and 21-0 after three, at which point many of the Mustang reserves got chances to see extended playing time. Fauquier ended the shutout bid with only about a minute to play in the fourth, but unfortunately for them, their goal couldn’t be worth 25 points. Meridian would win by a final tally of 25-1, joining similar final scores of 24-1 against Annandale, 24-4 against Liberty, and 22-5 over Brentsville that all additionally occurred during what is now a seven-game win streak. The girls will now get some well-earned rest after playing five games in the past six days – although with as hot they’ve been, that might be the last thing they want. The next time they’ll see the field will be on Thursday, May 8th when they host Oakton.
