Meridian Girls Lacrosse Dominates Brentsville, Improves to .500

Meridian High School’s girls’ lacrosse team was back on the field on a rainy Thursday night, looking to make it back-to-back wins as they hosted the District rival Brentsville Tigers. The Mustangs brought a 2-3 record into the night, but that record is deceiving after the girls opened their season with a gauntlet of a schedule featuring only one prior home game, a 22-11 win over Alexandria City back on March 24th.

Star scorer Ally Campbell, who had no fewer than ten goals in the Alexandria City win, was certainly ready to help her team get back to .500 as she found the back of the net twice in the first two minutes. Brentsville got one back, but Campbell and Lila Deering took turns adding tallies to give Meridian a 6-2 lead after a quarter. Then after Brentsville climbed back within three, the onslaught continued in the second period as Campbell tacked on two more. Hannah Rosenbusch and Zoe Gale joined the fun as well, and the Mustangs took an 11-3 advantage into the intermission.

The Rosenbusch sisters, Hannah and Ava, each scored quickly out of the break, and from that point on it was a running clock for the Mustangs with their double-digit leead. They extended the edge to 15-4 after three quarters and played out the action to a final score of 22-5, giving it their all until the final whistle. Campbell ended up with eight goals, while Deering added five and Hannah Rosenbusch had four. The Mustangs will have a couple weeks off before returning to the field after spring break, with their next game scheduled for April 23rd at Annandale
