Two subjects are dominating the social media universe globally today, Laura Loomer and family pets. One embodies the pure racism and xenophobia that now drives the Trump campaign, and the other involves the new victims of this disgusting development.

     Loomer is a radical conspiracy theorist who spews hatred online daily. She is now travelling and showing up at public appearances with Trump. She has been identified as responsible for persuading Trump to stridently assert in his debate with Kamala Harris Tuesday that Haitian immigrants are eating family pets — dogs and cats — in Ohio. That remark by Trump has joined the ranks for unforgettable punch lines coming out of presidential debates, met around the world with robust laughter and derision. 

     Harris’ remarkable performance at the debate Tuesday was not only powerful and courageous, but done with her profound realization that she now stands between a sane world and a terrible consequence for democracy, peace and civility if she were to fail. She’s got a lot on her shoulders, and those who support her, either directly or as a lesser evil compared to the alternative, need to step up and have her back.
