Meridian Boys Dismantle Warren County to Improve to 5-0

The Meridian Mustangs welcomed regional foe Warren County to town on Friday night, with the boys’ basketball team looking to continue its red hot start to the 2023-24 season. They won all four of their previous games by double digits, and made it known right from the opening tip that the streak would continue.

Boston Fitzpatrick made back-to-back threes to open the scoring, and Meridian began the game on a 15-0 run before Warren County could find the bottom of the net. The score was 20-4 after a frame and was extended to 36-15 at halftime, after the visitors were briefly able to stop the bleeding. Will Davis, who had missed Meridian’s first four games with a facial injury, saw his first action of the season (while wearing a protective mask) and drilled his first shot attempt, a three.

The rout continued after the break as the Mustangs extended their lead to a commanding 59-26 after three quarters, and then even the all-bench unit in the final frame was able to dominate as Meridian won by a final score of 76-31. John Lyman led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points while Isaac Rosenberger added 11, and Davis and Martino each reached double figures with 10.

The Mustangs are deep, experienced, and well coached – a strong recipe for a team that should be considered one of the top dogs in the region all season long. They’ll have a great chance to further cement that status when they visit divisional rival Brentsville next Thursday.
