Rain Barrel Distribution Taking Place on June 17

The City of Falls Church will host a pre-made rain barrel distribution on Saturday, June 17 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Property Yard (7100 Gordon Rd. Falls Church). Each barrel costs $65 and must be purchased in advance via credit card or PayPal on the Fairfax County website. There are no residency restrictions on this sale.

Rain barrels can be placed under your downspouts to capture rainwater from your roof. The rain barrels hold approximately 50 gallons. They are 23 inches wide and range from 41.25 inches to 43.75 inches tall. By installing a rain barrel at your home you will provide your plants with water while saving money and water and will help efforts to protect the Chesapeake Bay.
Build-Your-Own Rain Barrel Workshops are another option on June 10 at the Fairlington Community Center (3308 S Stafford St., Arlington) and on August 19 at the Mount Vernon Government Center (2511 Parkers Ln., Alexandria). Registration and a $55 fee are required; register on the Fairfax County website.

The event is sponsored by Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District in cooperation with the City of Falls Church. Questions about the event or requests for special accommodations can be directed to the conservation district at 703-324-1428 (TTY 711) or rainbarrel@fairfaxcounty.gov.
