FOOD NEWS: Mad Fox’s Spring Beer Fest, Fava Pot Coming to F.C. & Cinco de Mayo Specials

Mad Fox’s Spring Beer Festival Highlights Virginia Breweries

The beer will be flowing a bit more than usual at Mad Fox this Saturday, when the Falls Church brew pub hosts its annual Spring Bierfest. The fifth edition of the event will take place from 1 – 5 p.m. in the square in front of the restaurant and feature live music, local artists and vendors and a bounce house and arts and crafts for kids.

As for the booze, more than 30 Virginia breweries will be represented at the festival and includes two appearing for the first time – 2 Silos Brewery and Heroic Aleworks – plus Three Notch’d, Port City, Quattro Goomba’s, Caboose Brewing Company, Fairwinds, Devil’s Background and many more.
Admission to the festival is free, though a tasting glass and tickets are required to sample the beer and to order food in the festival area. A $30 admission package includes a tasting glass and six tasting tickets and a $55 package gets two glasses and 20 tickets.

Fava Pot Food Truck Opening Restaurant in F.C.

The food truck Fava Pot will open in restaurant form this summer in The Shops at West Falls Church shopping center on Lee Highway in Falls Church.

Founded by Dina Daniel, the currently-operating food truck is a mission-oriented Egyptian and Mediterranean restaurant helping people “Eat Healthy for a Good Cause.” Its truck menu includes appetizers like hummus, taboulah and falafel, stuffed pitas, platters and bowls.

Fava Pot sponsors the education of orphan girls in Egypt and supports them to return to serve in their communities. Additionally, the restaurant donates 15 percent of its profits when catering events for a school or church back to the organization.

Falls Church Area Cinco de Mayo Roundup

It’s Cinco de Mayo Friday and with it, several Falls Church-area restaurants are serving up festive specials for the celebration. Here’s the roundup:

Mad Fox Brewing Company (444 West Broad Street, Falls Church) — Mad Fox is combining Cinco de Mayo with a party to celebrate the opening of their patio starting at 3 p.m. Live music will be provided by Cactus Liquors and there will be Mexican-inspired food and drink specials until 11 p.m.

Open Road Grill (8100 Lee Highway, Falls Church) — Cinco de Mayo party including live music from 7 – 10 p.m. and specials on Coronas, Flying Dog Numero Uno, margaritas and quesadillas until 9 p.m.

Pepita Cantina (4000 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington) — Up Wilson in Arlington, Pepita will be throwing a Cinco de Mayo patio party with margaritas, suckling pig tacos, piñatas and a DJ. Taco Bamba (2190 Pimmit Drive, Falls Church) — The Falls Church taqueria is celebrating the 5th with a Mayan Cochinita Pibli taco. The special is a traditional dish of pork wrapped in banana leaves and slow roasted for hours in an achiote-bitter orange marinade.
