F.C. Woman Arrested After Dog Left Inside Hot Car Dies

Megan Kurtz Campbell, 19, of Falls Church, was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty after she was identified as the owner of a dog who died after being left inside a vehicle in the afternoon hours on Monday, July 25.

Police and fire personnel responded to PetSmart, located at 6100 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church, at around 12:23 p.m. for a report of a dog locked inside of a vehicle. Firefighters arrived and immediately determined the dog was in distress.

The firefighters entered the vehicle and attempted to cool the dog down but were unsuccessful. The firefighters then took the dog, a 5-year-old Puggle, to a veterinarian’s office inside PetSmart, where the dog was pronounced dead.
