Falls Church Girl Scout Troop 1506 recently finished its Bronze Award project, according to a press release from troop’s leader, Kathleen Philpott Costa. During the project, the scouts chose a problem happening in the world, learned about it, shared it with the community and helped solve it.
Troop funds were earned by the girls through three sales of lemonade, baked goods and jewelry and Girl Scout cookie sales. The troop chose to donate a portion of their troop funds to an organization called Days For Girls, which collects money and hygiene products to make hygiene supplies for girls all over the world to use. Sometimes girls who don’t have certain necessities can’t make it to school and altogether can end up missing more than a month of school.
As a result of Troop 1506’s efforts, Days for Girls will be able to provide provide 46 hygiene kits for women and girls. Days For Girls thanked the local girl scout troop and said that the donation “lifts up women and girls, allowing them to break the cycle of poverty by giving them back days of education and opportunity.”
