On Wednesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a town hall meeting in City Council Chambers at 300 Park Avenue regarding the proposed expansion and renovation of Mary Riley Styles Public Library. The Mary Riley Styles Public Library Board of Trustees is inviting the public to provide input about the proposed expansion and renovation project and will give a brief presentation and answer questions about it.
The adopted Capital Improvements Program provides funding in the amount of $8,381,605 for the renovation and expansion of the library. This project aims to renovate and expand the library to meet growth, adhere to the City’s Comprehensive Plan and be compliant with the American with Disabilities Act. The last renovation occurred library in 1992.
City Council is considering approving an ordinance to approve a special referendum for a bond for the project. Council may adopt the ordinance at the second reading of the ordinance on Monday, July 25, for which a public hearing is scheduled. If approved, the Circuit Court of Arlington would need to enter an order on the ballot question by August 19, 2016.
The question could appear on the ballot for the November 8 election. For more information, email [email protected].
