READ Program Enters 2nd Year at Henderson MS

The Reading Enjoyment and Development program, a collaboration with George Mason University, has entered its second year at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School and is resulting in progress in reading ability for several Henderson students.

Reading specialists in training at George Mason University are tutoring students at Henderson in reading and writing through the after school program. Students complete a reading diagnosis, a strategy is developed and progress is checked periodically.

Graduate students at George Mason University pursuing a reading specialist certification work one-on-one with Henderson students. The partnership is orchestrated by Janet Phillips, Henderson’s Reading Specialist and Dr. William Brozo, a professor of literacy at George Mason University.
