71-Year-Old Man Dies in Car Accident in Falls Church

A 71-year-old man was killed while he was attempting to cross Leesburg Pike in Falls Church on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. According to police, Medardo Carrillo Arias was struck by a 2012 Jeep Wrangler that was making a left turn from south bound Glen Carlyn Road onto east bound Leesburg Pike.

Arias was walking outside of the crosswalk, police said. The driver of the Jeep attempted to avoid Arias, but was unable to. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle after striking Arias and remained on the scene. Paramedics with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and confirmed that Arias died on the scene.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, according to police.
