Nova Firearms, the former Falls Church gun store which relocated to McLean in 2013, will return to The Little City this Saturday when it opens a second location on West Broad St., across the street from St. James School.
In a press release titled “Nova Firearms Strikes Again,” the gun store announced its plan to hold a grand opening Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 6-7, complete with gift cards for first-weekend firearm purchasers. The opening of the new store has not been without controversy, with residents, parents and school officials expressing concern with its location at 909 West Broad directly across the street from a school, so much so, a Facebook page titled “Falls Church Families for Gun Store-Free School Zones” was created to protest the opening. In addition, the Nova Firearms’ McLean location on Chain Bridge Road has been met with opposition from many concerned with its proximity to Sherman Elementary School. Fairfax County Board of Supervisors member John Foust has publicly stated he would like to see the store relocate.
Nova Firearms was in the news late last year when two handguns were stolen from its McLean store in December.
In the release announcing its opening, store owner JB Gates said “Nova Firearms has enjoyed tremendous support from customers of its McLean location and we’re happy to return to Falls Church, where we previously operated a gun shop.” He continued, “We have many loyal customers in Falls Church, and we’re happy to offer them the convenience of this second location.”
Nova Firearms will be the second gun store located in the City of Falls Church. The Gun Dude, located above Bedo’s Leatherworks at 412 W. Broad, took over the space vacated by Nova Firearms at the beginning of 2015.
