Beer Festivals Hit Falls Church, Alexandria This Saturday
The booze will be flowing in Falls Church and beyond with two beer festivals pouring up the good stuff this Saturday. Here in The Little City, Mad Fox Brewing Company’s fourth annual Cask Ale Festival will be in full effect outside the F.C. brew pub featuring not only Mad Fox’s own award-winning ales but also from a slew of other regional brewers. Participating breweries include 3 Stars, Adroit Theory, Atlas, Caboose, Champion, DC Brau, Devil’s Backbone, Escutcheon, Fair Winds, Forge Brew Works, Heritage, Legend, Laughing Dog, Oliver, Port City, Starr Hill and Union Craft.
While admission is free, if you want to booze, you’ve got to pony up some loot. Twenty-five bucks gets a tasting glass plus tickets good for six four-ounce tastings while $50 nabs a glass and 14 tickets. Tickets for food will also be available for $2 each.
Also Saturday, Rustico’s Novemberfest takes place in Alexandria with more than 50 beers from Virginia craft brewers. Locally, both Mad Fox and Fair Winds (whose CEO hails from F.C.) will be on tap and additionally, six brewers will be making their Northern Virginia debut at the festival: The Answer Brewpub, Chaos Mountain, Rusty Beaver and Smartmouth.
Admission is $10 – proceeds benefiting the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture – and food and drink tickets are $1 each. Large, 14 oz. beers will average five to eight tickets with half-pours available at roughly half the price. Food at the festival will include pulled pork sandwiches, sausages, mac and cheese, Old Bay wings, pumpkin doughnuts and more.
Now, here’s where it gets tricky: Mad Fox’s cask ale festival runs from noon – 6 p.m. Saturday and Rustico’s Novemberfest is noon – 5 p.m.

Dogwood’s Menu Gets A Seasonal Overhaul
Winter is coming and with the new season comes a revamp of the menu at Falls Church’s Dogwood Tavern. General manager Leo Salgado tells the News-Press it’s not a complete overhaul, just a seasonal shake up. “Some items came off, some oldies but goodies stayed,” he says.
Highlights of the new lineup include appetizers like Nashville hot chicken sliders, Bavarian pretzels with beer cheese fondue and blue crab and corn fritters. Main course additions are steak frites, a chicken pot pie and spaghetti and meatballs and new sandwiches include a meatball sub, a skirt steak sandwich, falafel wrap and a double decker bacon burger with two ground-beef-and-bacon patties topped with pimento cheese and bacon.
Also special this month is a Thanksgiving-themed burger which tops a turkey patty with provolone, stuffing and cranberry mayo. The burger of the month is available through the end of November.
