Matt Smith & Classic Boats on CBS Sunday Morning

Falls Church’s own Matt Smith, CEO of SmithGifford on W. Jefferson St., had pearls of wisdom to share on CBS Sunday morning last week concerning his latest love, the revival of interest in old fashioned wooden pleasure boats. He was interviewed equating the pre-fiberglass boats to “grand pianos on the water,” saying, “When you are out on one of these boats, you’re in the time that that boat existed. You are inheriting at that moment all the history that that boat lived. It lives in the wood. It comes out. You feel it.”

That’s the spirit that inspired Smith’s design of the logos for the Falls Church City Schools, the F.C. Chamber of Commerce and the slogan, The Little City, for Falls Church, itself.
