The Alden and the McLean Community Center’s Summer Sunday Concert in the Park series begins this Sunday, July 5, at 5 p.m. at the park gazebo at McLean Central Park, located at 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean. The theme for this year’s series of free, two hour-long concerts is “Women Who Rock,” and every band slated to perform has female front-women.

Kicking off this year’s series are The Ebony Hillbillies, a Black string band from New York City that specializes in a homegrown style that combines jazz, blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, rock n’ roll and country. Gloria Thomas Gassaway is on vocal and bones for this group.

The other three groups on the concert schedule, which is subject to change, are Ruthie and the Wranglers, Jennifer Cutting’s OCEAN Orchestra and The Lisa Lim Band. Free parking is available at the McLean Community Center or the Dolley Madison Library. For more information, call 703-790-0123 or visit aldentheatre.org.
