Last Saturday night three schools met at the pool in Manassas Park Community Center – George Mason, Clarke County and William Monroe. When the swim meet ended around 10:30 p.m., the Mustang boys had defeated the Clarke County Eagles and the William Monroe Dragons both by a 73-21 score and the Mustang girls beat the Eagles 75-19 and beat the Dragons 69-25.
There were some close finishes over the course of the evening, and a few rivalries between swimmers revisited in specific races, but in six races Mason showed its depth by taking both first and second place. For the first time all season a Mason did not win first place in every event, but they came very close to that maintaining that perfection by taking first in 21 of the night’s 22 events.
For a second week in a row, large numbers of Mustang swimmers saw improvements in their times, with 26 swimmers achieving personal records, some in multiple events. Sophomore Daniel Reinfurt joined the growing list of those heading to the State meet by qualifying in the 50 Free.
The teams head back to Manassas Park on this Saturday, Jan. 17, for another tri-meet, this time against Manasssas Park and Strasburg High Schools.
