Falls Church may be considering lighting up its trees for the first time this season but the National Zoo has been doing it for years.

This Friday, the zoo kicks off its annual holiday event, ZooLights, featuring more than half-a-million lights twinkling around the park on trees and in the form of animal illuminations. The free light show, set to music for the first time this year, starts at 5 p.m. every night through January 1 (Dec 24, 25, 31 excluded) and will be accompanied by activities including tubing, train rides and after-dark animal viewing for kids.

Food will also be available for purchase during the evening.

What: ZooLights

When: November – December 2014, 5 – 9 p.m.

Where: National Zoological Park, 3001 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20008
