Mason’s DeLeo Nominated for a Cappie

George Mason High School’s Sophie DeLeo has been nominated for a Cappie Award for her performance as a female vocalist in the school’s production of “Oklahoma” this past year. The Cappies nominate and determine winners in a number of categories to draw attention to the achievements in high school theatre.

One of the D.C. region’s most prolific recipients of Cappies nominations announced this Monday has been McLean High School, and specifically for its production of the musical, “Catch Me If You Can.” That show was nominated for Best Musical, as well as for Best Featured Actress (Celene Daniels), Best Supporting Actor (Jack Posey), Best Lighting, Best Sets, Best Props and Best Ensemble in a Musical (the FBA agents). McLean also captured a number of nominations for its drama critics and for its critics team as a whole.

In another area school, Falls Church High School’s Gulet Isse was nominated for Best Comic Actor in a Play for his work in “Plaza Suite.” The Cappie Awards gala will be held this year at the Kennedy Center on June 8.
