Dogwood Tavern has teamed up with Heavy Seas in Baltimore for the Falls Church sports bar’s first-ever cask of beer. The special brew, Dogwood’s Revenge, will make its debut next Wednesday, May 7, when the beer hits the taps during happy hour.

Dogwood general manager Jeremiah Mahoney says they came up with the idea for the tavern’s own cask after a rep from the brewery suggested it. “I thought it was a great idea, so we set it up,” Mahoney tells the News-Press.

A small group from Dogwood including Kevin Kiley, Pamela Kryschtal, Alex Delvecchio and Jennifer Hibson, took the trip to the brewer’s facility and after a quick tour, bottling and some tasting, came up with the final product. Dogwood’s Revenge is an American IPA that starts with Heavy Seas’ Loose Cannon as a base with additional citra hops and smoked hickory chips “to give it a unique flavor,” says Mahoney.

While next Wednesday’s beer may be a one-time firkin (a special container for cask beers), Mahoney says the team has a great time and feels like its worth doing again. ”We plan on doing it at least once more this year,” he says.

Dogwood Tavern is located at 132 West Broad Street in Falls Church.
