City of F.C. Leaf Mulch Loading Scheduled for Saturday

A City of Falls Church Leaf Mulch Loading Day will take place this Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Center, 217 Gordon Road.

City staff will use heavy machinery to load any open bed vehicle or trailer, or customers may bring containers and tools for self-hauling. Customers must sign a waiver before participating in the event. Contractors may not bring heavy equipment (such as loaders or dump trucks) into the Recycling Center. City residents and non-residents are welcome, and there is no limit to the number of loads available per customer.

The free double-ground leaf mulch is also available for self-haul at the Recycling Center seven days a week between 7 a.m. and dusk, until supplies last.

The leaf mulch is the end-product of leaves vacuumed from City streets in the autumn. Removing and recycling the leaves into mulch provides a far more cost-effective solution than hauling and disposing of them. This practice also benefits the environment: Leaf mulch naturally turns clay-rich soil into nutrient-rich soil, making it healthier for trees and plants and creating zero waste in the process.

For more information about the leaf mulch program or about how to create leaf mulch, call the Solid Waste Division at 703-248-5456 or visit fallschurchva.gov/LeafMulch.
