Beyer Outpaces Opponents in Fundraising

Campaign contributions raised by March 31 by five of the 10 candidates through March 31 seeking the Democratic nomination to fill the seat occupied by retiring U.S. Rep. Jim Moran were disclosed by the Federal Election Commission Wednesday, although there were no numbers as of then for the other five.

Among those reported, far ahead of the pack is former Virginia Lieutenant Gov. and Falls Church businessman Don Beyer, Jr., showing $672,104 raised, followed by Alexandria political activist Mark Levine with $322,808 (including $250,000 of his own money), State Del. Patrick Hope at $186,534, State Del. Charniele Herring at $121,315, Virginia Tech professor Derek Hyra at $26,049.

No reports were provided as of yesterday for State Sen. Adam Ebbin, Alexandria Mayor William Euille, Arlington activist Satish Korpe, businessman Bruce Shuttleworth, and Alexandria activist Lavern Chatman. However, the Ebbin campaign forwarded a link to its FEC submission showing it raised $168,416 in the first quarter.
