Falls Church News-Press owner-editor Nicholas Benton is scheduled for a 9:40 a.m. (EST) appearance on CNN tomorrow (Friday) morning to discuss News-Press columnist and former three-time U.S. figure skating champion Johnny Weir’s role as an announcer at the Sochi Olympics.

As an openly-gay skater who competed in two Olympics, Weir has come under heat from some quarters for not doing enough to protest the anti-gay laws in Russia. Others, like Benton, praise his efforts as an “out” gay man to represent himself competently and with a flair that he brings to everything he does, and by doing so being a living beacon of hope for all oppressed persons.
