Dem Wins Recount in Norfolk, Democrats Secure Majority in State Senate

Democratic State Del. Lynwood W. Lewis Jr. has won the recount for a Hampton Roads seat, throwing control of the state Senate to Democrats. With the win, as the recount confirmed the nine-vote margin of victory for Lewis in a special election, Democrats have 20 votes in the Senate, to 20 for the Republicans, but with a Democrat as lieutenant governor, Ralph Northam, the party effectively controls the body, and will be empowered to select the chairs of all the body’s committees.

It also confirms that Falls Church State Sen. Dick Saslaw will become the Senate Majority Leaders.
