Del. Marcus Simon, whose 53rd District includes the City of Falls Church, joined a chorus of fellow Democrats and civil liberties advocates in hailing the finding by newly-installed Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring today that Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.

“As a passionate supporter of equality, I am delighted at the attorney general’s determination that Virginia’s same sex ban is unconstitutional,” Simon said in a statement, noting that he has already submitted three bills aimed at advancing equality for LGBT citizens in the current session.

Del. Scott Surovell, among the many to issue statements praising Herring’s swift action of the matter, said he is pleased that as a result, “Virginia will not be subjected to the ignominy of massive resistance to equality yet again.”
