Investigators Rule F.C. Skyline Nail Supply Fire Accidental

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fire at Skyline Nail Supply last Friday afternoon. The business is located at 7234 Arlington Blvd., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. According fire investigators, the fire was accidental; a light fixture in the ceiling caused the fire. Preliminary damage is estimated at $100,000.

According to a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue news release, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the store and the Incident Commander struck a second alarm, bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters were challenged by the deep-seated fire and the large amount of chemicals used and stored within the store. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 50 minutes. It took firefighters an additional hour to extinguish fire hot spots. Despite the volume of fire, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one structure. Two nearby stores lost power, but service was restored several hours later. There were no injuries.
